Media Invited to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of B-2 Bomber First Flight

B-2 program "family reunion" to feature re-enactment of first flight

PALMDALE, Calif.

What:

Members of the electronic and print media are invited to Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) facility in Palmdale, California, to cover a gathering of the extended B-2 "family" as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of first flight of the U.S. Air Force's B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.  First flight occurred on July 17, 1989.



When:

Thursday, July 17

Arrival:   7:30 – 8:15 a.m. (for sign-in, security screening)

Transportation, Viewing of B-2 bomber landing:  8:20 – 9:20 a.m.

Ceremony:  10 to 10:40 a.m.

Re-Enactment of First Flight: 11 a.m.

Speaker Media Availability: 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Visuals:

Ceremony will be set against a backdrop of an operational B-2 bomber, and will feature inspirational B-2 activities, including a special appearance by the B-2 Stealth Bike designed and produced by Orange County Choppers, and a static display of the N-9MB aircraft, one of the predecessor aircraft for the B-2. B-roll will also be provided.

    

Speakers at the event will include Bruce Hinds, who co-piloted the first B-2 flight, and Brig. Gen. Steven Basham, the co-pilot for the first B-2 combat mission.

All potential media attendees to this event must RSVP no later than Thurs., July 3 for security screening.  We will not be able to admit anyone who is not on our pre-approved media list.  Please RSVP for anyone who MIGHT be asked to cover this event.

I-405/I-5 North to CA Hwy 14

Follow Hwy 14 to Palmdale/Lancaster, approx 36 miles

Exit Hwy 14 at Ave M (Exit #40)

Turn right and proceed east on Ave M, approx 5 miles

Turn right at Northrop Grumman Way (Stoplight)

Proceed to Building 405 by flagpole for check in

BACKGROUND
Northrop Grumman is the Air Force's prime contractor for the B-2 stealth bomber. The company's B-2 program office is located in Palmdale.

Plant 42 was the site of the B-2's rollout in 1988 and its first flight in July, 1989. All 20 B-2s in the fleet today were assembled there and still come to Palmdale for programmed depot maintenance from their operational home at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.
