"In just over five years of production, our LCR-100 has become a successful, widely used system that is noted for its outstanding reliability and accuracy, even in the challenging helicopter environment that is subject to vibration, acoustic noise and unique flight profiles," said Eckehardt Keip, managing director for Northrop Grumman LITEF. "The LCR-100 is distinguished by its gyrocompassing ability that exceeds the standard features of competitor AHRS units, as well as a weight, volume and power consumption that is nearly one-third that of comparable systems."
The LCR-100 has a north-finding gyrocompass feature that eliminates the need for a magnetic sensing unit, similar to an inertial reference system. Additionally, the system's precise inertial measurement unit enables extended coasting performance for the aircraft to continue providing accurate navigation information in the event of GPS signal loss.
