Northrop Grumman Appoints Three Vice Presidents In New Strategy and Technology Organization
LOS ANGELES, May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) today announced the promotions of three business strategy directors to vice presidents in the company's recently formed Strategy and Technology (S&T) organization.
All three are responsible for the ongoing development of the company's strategic framework with the goal of optimizing technology investments. They report to Albert F. Myers, corporate vice president, Strategy and Technology.
"Each one has played a key role in helping to shape Northrop Grumman's truly impressive portfolio of defense businesses," said Myers of those promoted. "With their assistance, we will concentrate on the maximization of the synergy potential provided by our seven sectors to deliver the greatest value to our customer."
Those promoted are:
-- Mark Ureda, 49, will be responsible for coordination with the
company's Space Technology and Electronic Systems sectors;
-- Karin Flanagan, 43, will manage the same function for the company's
Information Technology and Mission Systems sectors; and
-- Larry Harrell, 49, will be in charge of systems and platforms, with
responsibility for coordination with the Newport News, Ship Systems
and Integrated Systems sectors.
Ureda joined Northrop Grumman in 1985 as manager, Advanced Technology, at the former Electronics Division in Anaheim, Calif., working in sensor physics and acoustics phenomenology. After joining the corporate office in 1993, he was promoted to director, Business Strategy, in 1995, and he has been involved in mergers, acquisitions and strategy development during the last decade. He supported all transactions related to space and electronics including the purchases of Westinghouse's Electronic Systems Group (ESG), Litton Industries, Inc., TRW, Inc., and numerous smaller and international acquisitions. He holds a B.S. from the UCLA School of Engineering, an M.S. from the Penn State Graduate Program in Acoustics and an M.B.A from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.
Flanagan joined Northrop Grumman in 1981 as a design and test engineer at the former Ventura Division, working on unmanned vehicles. In 1986 she was promoted to program director of unmanned vehicles. In 1993, Flanagan joined the business strategy group at the corporate office, responsible for merger and acquisition activities including strategic analysis, competitive assessment, due diligence and transaction support. Flanagan supported the majority of company acquisitions over the last decade including Grumman Corporation, Vought Aircraft Company, Westinghouse ESG, Logicon, Litton, TRW and numerous smaller acquisitions. She holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from California Lutheran University.
Harrell has been with Northrop Grumman for 20 years, where he has been responsible for the front-end merger and acquisition process for Newport News, Ship Systems and Integrated Systems sectors. Harrell is also responsible for evaluating sector long-range strategic plans and is the corporate representative on several sector integrated product teams. In addition to his role in the major acquisitions of Ryan Aeronautical, Litton Ship Systems, Newport News and TRW, he had a key role in the divestiture of the company's commercial aerostructures business in 2000 and the TRW automotive business. Prior to joining the corporate office, Harrell held positions of increasing responsibility on the B-2 program, including flight test engineering manager in preparation of the aircraft's first flight and air vehicle manager for the first B-2 delivery. He holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering From Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a M.S. in Technology Management from Pepperdine University.
The recently announced S&T department leads or participates in corporate- level integrated product teams, manages the strategic pursuits process, and performs strategic analysis to support merger, acquisition and divestiture projects. The new department supports the chief executive officer and president in positioning Northrop Grumman for long-term growth.
