March 17, 2015

FALLS CHURCH, Va., March 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) announced today its commitment to two additional 2020 environmental performance goals: to reduce water consumption by 20 percent from 2014 levels and achieve a 70 percent solid waste diversion rate.  These goals complement the company's 2020 greenhouse gas reduction goal, announced last year, to reduce absolute emissions 30 percent from 2010 levels.

"Northrop Grumman is committed to environmental sustainability leadership," said Wes Bush, chairman, chief executive officer and president, Northrop Grumman. "Our 2020 goals reflect our continued focus on reducing our environmental impacts locally and globally."

The company is using scientific and economic models to formulate its water and solid waste goals. The water use reduction plans prioritize usage in areas where water supplies are at risk. The solid waste reduction diversion plans will use lifecycle cost analysis to identify key opportunities for source reduction, process efficiency and end-of-life management.

Between 2011 and 2014, Northrop Grumman implemented more than 75 percent of its water use and solid waste best management practices in its large, owned and leased facilities. To achieve the 2020 solid waste and water goals, Northrop Grumman will enhance its best management practices to further the company's initiatives to reduce water use and solid waste.

Northrop Grumman's greeNG program employs a strategy that balances energy and resource use reductions with proven and alternative technology to reduce its environmental footprint. The company's commitment to reduce water use and solid waste sent to landfills reflects an understanding of the increasing pressures on global water supplies and costs and environmental impacts of solid waste landfills.

The CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2014 ranked Northrop Grumman in the top one percent of reporting companies and a leading aerospace and defense company for climate change strategy and management, emissions reductions and risk management processes for the second consecutive year.
