U.S. Army Awards Northrop Grumman Major C-RAM Systems Integration Delivery Order

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 10, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received a $58 million delivery order to install additional systems and continue maintenance of existing installations for the Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortars (C-RAM) system at forward-operating bases in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Under this delivery order, announced October 9, Northrop Grumman will provide systems engineering, production, deployment and logistics support for the C-RAM system. The delivery order was awarded by the Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. Program management and technical direction will come from the Director, Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar Program office, in the Army's Program Executive Office, Command Control and Communications Tactical.

C-RAM is a capability that integrates existing field artillery and air defense sensors, a commercial off-the-shelf warning system and a U.S. Navy-developed interceptor to protect U.S. and coalition personnel from the indirect fire threat in Iraq. The system has responded to RAM attacks by intercepting and destroying incoming rounds. It also has a capability that contributes to counterattacks and response options such as tracking and apprehending the enemy forces. C-RAM is deployed and operational, and has saved lives and reduced casualties with no system failures since deployment.

"We're proud to be continuing our work on C-RAM that helps to protect our troops against mortar and rocket attacks," said Mike Twyman, vice president of Integrated Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence Systems for Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector. "We are committed to continue delivering on the Army's confidence in Northrop Grumman's ability to provide this critical capability to our warfighters."

Since 1996, Northrop Grumman has developed and deployed more than 100 force protection systems at installations in more than 18 countries.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
